Fine quality inlaid rosewood jewellery box in splendid condition. All veneer is original, complete and in excellent condition with even colour and grain to all aspects. Inlaid brass cartouche. Inlaid brass bands to ALL aspects of the exterior, a general indication of good quality. Original hinges and lock with a working key supplied. The lid closes perfectly square. The interior has been very skilfully refurbished and is in superb condition. The person that did the work obviously took considerable pride in his/her work. It is not that often that antique boxes are relined with velvet and gilt embossed leather. Please note the extent of the gilt tooling to the leather frame of the ruched panel to the lid interior comprising of three different designs. I doubt many restorers would go to the trouble of complementing the panel with gilt embossed edges to the upper edges of the tray and all of the dividers. Side metal handles to the tray to assist access to the storage space beneath the tray that is lined throughout with velvet as is the base of the tray. The 9 sections to the tray and the open storage section beneath the tray makes this box suitable for storing both large and small items of jewellery and the style of the interior and exterior is such that it would be suitable for use by a lady or gentleman. A superb box, circa 180 years old that should be good for many generations to come. Try finding similar in terms of age, condition, style and quality refurbishment.
