This is a George V hallmarked sterling silver and glass sugar shaker. It was assayed in London in 1917 and made by M Chapman, Son & Co Ltd (Middleton Chapman). The rounded domed lid is pierced with stars, and the rim of the base is also mounted with a silver collar. The glass body was hand blown and engraved with foliate designs.
I have tried to show the detail in the glass engraving with different lighting techniques in the photographs.
There are a number of dents around the sides of the lid and it has buckled slightly under pressure around the edge. The lid still fits snugly on the collar. Other than that it has mild wear commensurate with age.
The lid weighs 11g / 0.37 oz t.
