Aramis Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The front contains two drawers: one long narrow drawer and one containing a pull out leather covered writing slope, a rather unusual feature. The back presents as 3 dummy drawers each with a knob. The top is inlaid with darker wood (possibly walnut) stringing with a foliage inlaid piece on each drop flap. The theme is repeated on the drawers and at the base of the lyre supports. The drop flaps can be raised by recessed supports. Possibly when made, or a little later, the scrolling legs have been strengthened with a brass truss. I haven’t seen a sofa table quite like this one! Pretty with very elegant proportions and detailed making.
Full width with flaps up 105cm.
