Description
William Joseph Julius Caesar BOND (1833-1926) Downing Woods Flintshire North Wales 1880 A beautifully crafted jewel like landscape of figures in a woodland glade by “alphabet” Bond. Downing Woods is located near the North Wales coast in Flintshire. Painted in oil onto a wooden panel, signed bottom left and inscribed verso. Bond was influence by the work of JMW Turner and was one of the foremost exponents of the Liverpool School. He painted in an impressionistic style and produced small luminous landscapes and coastal scenes. He exhibited at the Liverpool Academy becoming an associate in 1856 and a member of the Liverpool society. He also exhibited at the British Institution and the Royal Academy. He is represented in numerous public collections, including the Walker Art Gallery and the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum. Condition Good sound original condition. The frame has been restored.
