Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chrystoleum is a late 19th-century process where an albumen photograph was pasted face-down onto the inside of a curved sheet of glass, treated to render the paper translucent, and hand-painted from behind with oil colours to produce depth and vibrant detail.

The process required a photographic paper print, convex glass panels, starches or adhesives, translucent oil or wax treatments, and oil paints applied in layered steps on the reverse surface.

Authentic pieces feature a distinct convex glass front, noticeable three-dimensional depth created by hand-applied paints on the rear glass surface, and period frame construction with original backing paper.

A chrystoleum works exceptionally well when hung as part of a gallery wall alongside brass sconces, placed above a console table, or positioned on a narrow wall space in traditional and eclectic interiors.

Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and high-humidity areas to prevent fading and moisture damage to the photographic emulsion, and clean the outer glass gently using a dry microfibre cloth.
