Description

This excellent solid silver hip flask was made by renowned silversmith Edward Smith of Birmingham in 1845.

Made in the early Victorian period, this flask is an exemplary piece of silverware to showcase the superb craftsmanship and quality of such pieces made in this era. The exterior features a spectacular fully engraved front with hand-engraved acanthus leaves that intertwine and curve forming a fully encompassing motif.

The lid features additional engravings to complement the body and remains in excellent condition with its original cork and a leak-free screw down closure.

The reverse side of the flask is left unembellished and curves slightly to fit the shape of the human thigh/waist for when the flask would be stored in a holster/pocket.

In hand, the craftsmanship and quality are ever more apparent with the crisp and sharp detailing of the engravings glistening under natural light, the overall weight and sturdy feel in your hand and the smoothly rounded edges to fit the hand/pocket.

The hip flask has been fully hallmarked on the front and rear of the flask.
