1940s gun metal pocket watch by Rotherham & Sons.
The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Rands, a brand name registered by Rotherham & Sons (R and S) of London and La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1928. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gun metal which is an alloy of copper, tin and zinc which was originally used in gun manufacture but was later replaced by steel. There is surface marking to the case, which is quite normal for gun metal, and overall it is in good condition. The gold embellishments really lift it.
The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is in good condition just some slight discolouration to the centre.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
All of our prices include UK and worldwide postage. We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the blue 'Buy now with credit card or Paypal' button on each listing page.
Non-UK buyers are welcome but payment can be made by Paypal only.
Please note that we are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
Due to Customs regulations, we are unable to send watches / precious metals to certain countries. If your country prohibits the importation of watches / precious metals and you send through an order then any Paypal fees that we incur will be deducted from your refund. Please contact us if you are unsure and we can check the regulations for your country.
