A Marvelous Pair of Sterling Silver Georgian Candlesticks - Henry Wilkinson & Co 1837

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this pair of solid silver Georgian candlesticks made by silversmith Henry Wilkinson & Co of Sheffield in1837.

The pair is profusely decorated with a high level of craftsmanship with chased motifs and geometric designs.

The base is intricately chased with an acanthus leaf and scroll motif with four sides of sloped panels.

The mid-section features a tiered design with the waisted-shaped columns featuring a plain, high polish finish with each end being further decorated with chased acanthus leaves.

The top of the candlesticks features original hallmarked sconces that continue with the theme of cast and chased acanthus motifs.

A crest is engraved on the pair - both present on the base and the top of the sconces.

The pair is fully hallmarked on the base with matching marks on the sconces.

The base provides a very sturdy platform for the tall columns to be product displayed without any concerns for the candles falling over.

A magnificent pair of candlesticks ideal for a remarkable and bold display of decorative Georgian silverware both by itself or with practical use with candles.
