A Fine Quality Georgian Mahogany Bracket Clock by Handley and Moore of London, Retailed by George Frankcom of Portsea, C.1800.

Description

A fine quality mahogany 8 day bracket clock, by Handley and Moore of London retailed by George Frankcom of 3 Daniels Street Portsea, Portsmouth.

The finely figured flame mahogany break arch case, inset at the front and sides with cast brass fishscale silk lined sound frets, standing on a raised plinth and resting on brass bun feet.

The arched top with brass bound single pad and carrying handle, above an opening cast brass bezel with the original convex glass. original glass to the rear door, with the original lock.

The convex painted white dial with Roman numeral chapter, signed to the centre Frankcom, Portsea, with strike / silent lever above the numeral XII.

The fully restored fine quality substantial double fusee eight day movement striking the hours and repeating at will on a large bell, with strike / strike silent facility.

The shaped backplate with beautiful border engraving with the pendulum similarly engraved with pendulum hold fast, London style rating adjustment.

The frontplate of movement stamped Handley and Moore numbered 3554 dating the clock to circa 1800.

Finely fretted blued steel hands.

An elegant well proportioned clock with a wonderfully figured mahogany case of excellent colour and patination.

All of our clock movements are restored by our horologist who works exclusively for us.

Our horologist is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.
