A Pair of Art Deco Crystal, Nickel & Copper Wall Lights by Lobmeyr Vienna

1900 - 1920
Description

A Stunning Pair Of Crystal, Nickel and Copper Wall Sconces by Renowned Maker J & L Lobmeyr, Vienna. Of semi-circle form with an attractive central embossed copper panel with leaf decoration. Flanked to either side by vertical baguette-cut glass. Over the two tiers below hang roughly twenty two crystal lustres drops interspersed with baguette-cut drops. The light frame is finished in nickel silver which contrasts really well against the crystal and copper. These lights will make a real statement where ever they lay their hat! Would suit a modern or period interior.

J & L Lobmeyr was founded in 1823 by Joseph Lobmeyr. When his children acquired the company they renamed it J & L Lobmeyr, named after his son Joseph and brother Louis. They soon become world renowned and provided a crystal chandelier for Schönbrunn Palace and other clients. They also had a partnership with Thomas Edison with whom they co-developed the first electric chandeliers in the world, in 1880. They also worked for the King of Belgium, the Duke of Brabant, and the Court of Flanders.

In recognition of their services, they were titled purveyor to the Imperial Court. In 1917, Louis died. The company was left to Stefan Rath, Louis' nephew. Additional clients included the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Kremlin.

today, the company is still owned by Rath's grand children Andreas, Leonid and Johannes.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
