Carved Oak Box Seat Porter’s Chair C.1880.

Description

Unusual 17th.c. style carved oak hall seat or porter’s chair with storage c.1880. Tall backrest topped with a moulded canopy supported on large acanthus leaf corbels. Panels carved in relief with a heraldic fleur-de-lis motif within a shaped cartouche and scrolling elements. Unusual fishscale carving to to the rails and mullions. Low shaped arms, carved on both sides, over a loose board seat which lifts to reveal useful storage below for shoes and boots etc. Further panels below the seat to match the backrest. Raised moulded and scratch carved side panels. Raised on turned bun feet. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
