Large Antique Brass Bound Coromandel Jewelry Box C.1850

Description

A large imposing box made from exotic Coromandel wool prized for it's highly decorative grain and a particular favourite with contemporary interior designers currently.

Dating to 1850, mid Victorian in era, the box is solid and heavy and enhanced with solid brass edging, flush brass handles, a large brass cartouche to the lid and a brass escutcheon which houses the working key.

Once opened, this large box could be used for letters, stationery, photographs or indeed jewellery, the interior has been relined with hand-made marbled paper in a highly attractive blue colouring. The drawer below can be released by lifting the pin and using the flush handle to the front revealing a fitted blue jewellery drawer with a long ring compartment to the front. The box is perfect for either a lady or gentleman and very versatile.

A wonderful piece in excellent condition; measuring an impressive 11 1/2" x 8 3/4" x 7" tall.
