A Fine And Unusual Pair Of Oils On Canvas..Pheasants And Partridge.

This wonderful pair of paintings on canvas depicts a bouquet of pheasants and a family of English Partridges. One pheasant is chasing a blue tit which is in turn chasing a damsel fly. One of the partridge chicks is chasing a butterfly. Each centre panel is flanked by a trompe l''oeil. The pheasants flanked by a trompe l''oeil of a fox sitting up as if observing the pheasants. The partridges are flanked by a stoat looking up at a mouse on the left side and a stoat on the right.
 
Some minor old touch ups. Superbly painted but not signed, circa mid to late nineteenth century. The gilt frames later but suit the paintings well.
 
A superb pair of county house paintings.
