A rare and fine quality late 17th Century Walnut and Marquetry cushion Mirror.
The Marquetry work depicting flowers and flowing scrolled foliage is fine and superbly fretted, obviously the work of a first class Marqueterie. Most of these Mirrors had an arched crest to the top and this one is no exception. You can see the two sawn and chiseled out sections to the top rail at the back where the crest has been attached with a sliding dovetail, this is the usual method at this period. The colour is good, it really glows. The Marquetry is in remarkably good condition, unusually with no sections replaced.
The beveled glass plate in good condition is a later replacement.
