This Victorian mahogany pedestal partners desk was made circa 1860

This Victorian mahogany pedestal desk was made in one of the upper end workshops where they took time selecting the better materials for the work.

Our desk is of a great size for both office as well as a domestic setting, due to the great surface area this gives you a large workspace. You have the added feature of the drawers to the rear as well as the open bookcase sections, and so this will look fantastic set in the middle of the room if required.

The top has a fine inset hand coloured hide gilt tooled leather above the 3 drawers Under the top are pedestals each side of the kneehole each with 3 graduated drawers to the front, and an open bookcase and drawers to the rear.

The leather hide is laid on the surface before being hand dyed and then finished by hand using the gilt tooling tool. This of course is a specialised skill and takes great skill as well as patience. Most desks you see elsewhere are quite often bland pre-coloured leathers so dont have the special individual finish and look.

Original pedestal desks are made in 3 sections which make them easy to move around your office or home. If you see a pedestal desk that is one piece be cautious as it probably started life as a dressing table or washstand. Over the years these have been adapted for profit.
