Description

One of the most stunning and elegant boxes I have had for a while, made from exotic Rosewood prized for it's rich colour and striking grains.

Dating to around 1880, late Victorian in era, the box has the most superb marquetry inlay with a variety of timbers and Ivory, all intact and superbly executed. The top features a central classical urn overflowing with fruit and the front another urn as the escutcheon. There is a tasselled key which turns the lock rather clumsily and is included for decorative purposes.

Suitable as a desk box, jewelry box or simply a stunning decorative piece which will certainly impress. The interior has been relined in a hand-made marbled paper, fresh and clean and ready for use.

Excellent condition, measuring 10 3/4" x 8" x 5 3/4" tall.
