Georgian Bow Fronted Stick Barometer Stott, Dumfries

Description

A quality Georgian period Scottish bow fronted stick barometer. A mahogany case with a convex middle and an original brass finial to the pediment. A concave and convex pediment above the scale from 26 to 31 inches. Signed 'Stott Dumfries' in an oval to the dial. An unusual and clever vernier slide adjuster with brass lever to the right below the dial. Canted corners to the cistern with a Georgian marquetry inlay. Circa 1790.

A very similar bowfronted stick baromer by Stott of Dumfries is illustrated In Goodison's 'English Barometers 1680-1860' book.
