Stunning French Double Inkwell - Stone Encrusted - Postage Stamp Drawer

Description

An exceptional and highly decorative hand chased brass or bronze inkstand, dating to around 1860, most unusual with it's various semi-precious stones and the tiny postage stamp drawer to the front.

The leg on each corner is created from a very stylish curled acanthus leaf, the brass is engraved with fine quality floral and foliate decoration, quite exceptional.

Each of the inkwells is topped with a cabochon polished Malachite stone, the front and back with Lapis Lazuli and the sides with Jasper (I think).

The lids of each inkwell open to reveal glass liners, for perfect re-filling and cleaning with ink. A wonderful surprise with this piece is the small drawer underneath created to store postage stamps.

A wonderful and most unusual piece in excellent condition, one Jasper with a tiny imperfection mentioned purely for accuracy. Measures 6" x 3 3/4" x 3 1/2" tall.
