Antique English Silver Pocket Watch, Unusual Case

Antique English silver pocket watch of unusual design.

The watch has a key-wound movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner layer which is engraved with the name of a previous owner of the watch, J W Prescott, Aughton with a date of 1885. The two key holes have exquisite detailing around them.

The watch measures 54mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for Chester 1883 with a maker's mark for the Liverpool watch case maker James Dodsworth. The case is in good condition, just an outward “ding” to the back and slight unevenness.

The front cover opens to reveal a glass lens which is in good condition.

The dial has some nibbles and a couple of hairlines around the edge, and also two dial screws are visible.

The watch is of an unusual configuration as the bezel comes off and then the movement, which is held in position by two pins, lifts out completely. As far as we can tell, this is how it was made, there is no evidence of a movement hinge.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
