Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-to-late 19th century, British silversmiths introduced whimsical novelty designs for dining tables. Biscuit boxes were shaped like ordinary functional objects, including commercial trade weights, milk churns, and coal scuttles, blending utility with conversation-starting aesthetics for afternoon tea service.

These items were predominantly constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or solid sterling silver. The process involved spinning sheet metal into shape, soldering structural components like handles and hinges, and applying hand-engraved details or lettering.

Authentic period pieces feature stamped makers marks, EPNS hallmarks, or registry numbers (Rd marks) on the base or interior rim. The engraving typically displays precise hand-cut linework, and legitimate wear appears on raised contact areas revealing the base nickel alloy underneath.

Position the item on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or kitchen counter as a sculptural accent piece. It functions effectively as a decorative vessel for wrapped confectionery, small accessories, or as an standalone object alongside glassware.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish formulated for electroplated metal to avoid removing the thin outer layer of silver. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, dry immediately with a lint-free towel, and store away from high humidity to prevent accelerated oxidation.
