1947 Tissot Bumper Automatic Wrist Watch

1947 Tissot bumper automatic wrist watch.

The watch has a 17-jewel bumper automatic movement, 28.5-1 which is working nicely. This calibre was in production between 1944 and 1953 and indeed the serial number, 1,924,503, dates this particular watch to 1947. The movement is fully signed with the Tissot name.

Early automatic movements such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement. Later automatic watches have the fully rotational rotor.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition. The screw-on case back has three scratches where it looks like a tool has slipped. The case back states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in lovely condition.

The signed dial has its original feuille shaped hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is some age related marking to the dial commensurate with its age.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
