Description
A lovely pair of large antique earrings from the late Georgian period, c1800s. The paste sit in classic domed silver backs with crimped collet settings and likely started life as buttons. These buttons are often converted into earrings and always have a wonderful look in the ear due to their large size. In this instance, the earrings have shepherds hooks made from solid 9ct gold. One of the stones has a very slightly duller appearance and actually tests as normal glass, whilst the other has a brighter look, synonymous with Georgian paste, due to the high lead content. It is an interesting anomoly as the settings are the same; perhaps a stone has been replaced along the way, though the size and cuts of both stones have the same style of hand cut facets. Regardless of this, the earrings are beautiful and the price has been adjusted to reflect this. Details: Materials - 9ct Gold Hooks (tested), Silver, Clear Paste and Glass Age - C1800 Size - The earrings measure approx 12mm in diameter Condition - Very good. A little wear to the surface of the stones, noted for accuracy only. Weight - 3.04g the pair Free worldwide shipping on all orders over £150. Internal Ref: 3741
