Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French gilt bronze figural clock, often referred to as an ormolu clock, is a decorative timepiece produced primarily during the 18th and 19th centuries in France. These clocks feature finely sculpted bronze figures representing classical, historical, or exotic themes mounted on elaborate gilded bases.

These clocks were cast in bronze using the lost-wax or sand casting method and gilded using the mercury gilding process, known as fire gilding. The mechanical clock movements typically feature enamelled or cast dials driven by twin-train spring mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces display heavy casting, crisp hand-chased detailing, and a mercury-gilded finish that retains a distinct warm gold lustre. The internal clock movements frequently bear French maker stamps, serial numbers, or countwheel striking systems.

A figural clock serves as a focal point when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard. Combining it with clean-lined contemporary furniture or minimalist artwork creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern aesthetics.

Gilt bronze should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a natural bristle brush. Avoid abrasive metal polishes and chemical cleaners, which permanently strip the delicate gold layer from the underlying bronze.
