We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire clocks were produced primarily during the early nineteenth century under Napoleon Bonapartes reign. The style is characterised by neoclassical motifs, gilded bronze (ormolu) finishes, and detailed sculptural figures representing historical events, military themes, or classical mythology.

These timepieces were typically constructed using cast bronze with fire-gilding (ormolu) or silver plating applied to the surface. Dial faces were often crafted from enamel or cast brass with Roman numerals, while internal movements utilised brass plates and steel arbours.

Authentic pieces generally display heavy, detailed casting with hand-chased surface details visible under close examination. The reverse of the bronze castings often shows raw hand-finishing, and original mechanical movements usually feature stamped serial numbers or makers marks on the backplate.

A figural bronze clock works well positioned centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or dark wood sideboard. Modern interior designers often pair these sculptural timepieces with neutral backdrops, framed mirrors, or minimalist art to allow the detailed metalwork to act as a focal point.

Gilt bronze should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to clean intricate areas. Abrasive polishes, liquid cleaners, and water should be avoided, as they can wear away the original gilding and silver plating.
