Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The seat area surrounding the upholstery is ebonised. The rest of the chair is mahogany with lots of fine satinwood inlays & bandings. The design of the fretwork on the back is wonderful & the upturned arms are nice too.

This chair is sturdy & strong, helped by the strong turned legs that are joined by the cross stretchers. It has a wonderful shape & I would date it to around the 1890-1900 period.
