A superb oil on panel by highly regarded artist Edmund Bristow 1787-1876. The work painted on oak panel depicts an inn interior with two patrons playing cards. The interior is also represented in another work by the artist where it is located as the Turks Head, Eton. The quality of the painting is quite stunning particularly the figures and even the little dog sat at their feet. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition with some minor areas of craquelure. The work is signed to the lower right but it is not dated but looking at his similar works it would date to C.1845.Edmund Bristow 1787-1876 was a sporting and animal painted who live in Windsor where he was patronised by the Duke of Clarence, later William VI, and by other members of the Royal family.
