Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1870s.

The lid lifts to reveal a wonderful fitted interior with silk and velvet lined compartments.
The locks is signed "Bramah London" used only on the finest pieces. It comes with the original working key. It is a sprung lock so a little push and turn allows for the lid to be opened. The lid shuts and locks automatically so it's essential the box is never shut with the key inside!!

The fall front opens to reveal a fully fitted drawer and a drawer below which is opened with the push button in the top hinge; the bottom drawer springs open and clicks shut again.
The box came with the paperwork shown, lovely to have the story of the box and the connection to the British composer, Frederick Delius. It is headed Samson Mordan box, which should say Sampson Mordan, but I don't see it signed by Sampson Mordan.

A lovely box in excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age, dating to c.1870.
An impressive and very usable size measuring 12" x 9" x 7".
