1930s Thomas Russell Pocket Watch

1930s Thomas Russell pocket watch.

The watch has a Cyma stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Thomas Russell name and logo.

Thomas Russell & Son was a well respected business having achieved a Royal Warrant as watch and clock makers to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

In 1881 the company started importing movements from Switzerland, such as the one we have in this particular watch.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged dust cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The gold plated case is the “Russell” model which was produced by the Illinois Watch Case Company. The case is in good condition, a little gentle unevenness to the back and the odd mark but nothing too serious at all.

The watch glass has light marking, nothing serious at all.

The signed dial has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There are a couple of hairline cracks although they are faint. There is also an old repair at the edge of the dial by number 3 but not overly noticeable.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
