Beautifully Brass Inlaid Laburnum Jewelry Box - Regency C.1820

Description

A very elegant and rarely found antique box in Laburnum wood, prized for it's dark, olive-brown ground and translucent golden grain.

In typical elegant Regency style is beautifully inlaid with thick polished brass stringing and each corner with an Ebony inlaid quatrefoil. The top has a large inlaid plaque which complimenting the brass escutcheon to the front which houses a working key.

The interior of the lid has a crushed fabric lining which opens with a portfolio behind for storage of "secret" papers.

The box and tray have been re-lined in a combination of a silvered paper together with a hand marbled paper.

Dating to 1820, it remains in excellent condition measuring 11" x 9" x 5". Perfect for a jewellery box or desk-top storage box.
