The Sitter Stalker is thrilled to bring to market this unique and poignant example of Modern British Portraiture by celebrated and exhibited artist George Frederick Hinchcliff.
The dancer perches on a chair in relaxed and reflective mode. He wears his elaborate dance costume of a high neck and full sleeved red satin shirt, encrusted with sequins.
This characterful portrait is richly coloured and very evocative of the period, its expressive tone is further brought to life by the two surreal dancers which surround the sitters head.
This fine portrait is in an excellent state of conservation and is presented ready to hang in a later wide black wooden frame
Australian born Hinchcliff moved to England to study art, first in Yorkshire and then at the Royal College of art in London. He graduated in 1923 and exhibited at the Royal Academy and in later life he was the Head of Painting and Decoration at Leicester College of Art (see following image)
