This exotic wood (whose striping pattern somewhat resembles a zebra) with it's lustrous surface, durability and grain pattern make it a popular choice in modern design and a true fashion statement in the 21st century.
The box dates to around 1840, and was a fine top-notch example in it's day with solid brass edging, brass stringing and a inlaid cartouche to the top which has a couple of decorative initials engraved, I think J C. The handles to either side are superb with inlaid decorative plates. The brass is also inlaid to the corners inside the box. There is a triple Bramah lock with working key, the best locks to be found.
The button to the back of the top compartment releases the bottom drawer which retains it's original fitted interior for jewellery. The main compartment has been recently re-lined in a complimentary hand marbled paper providing a fresh clean interior ready for use.
A classic and elegant box in an impressive size measuring 13" x 10" x 7" tall.
