Original Art Deco Wall clock by the renowned French clock makers Japy Freres ( see BIO below). Rare design this superb timepiece offers not only functionality but quality. In a stepped almost beehive casing the body is chromed aluminium. The dial face which is enamelled and silvered is protected by a dome glass bezel frame. Winding is applied from the front of the clock just above the name 'japy'. We've had this clock fully serviced and so it comes to you in good working order and keeping good time. The overall condition is excellent with the chrome free from tarnishing or pitting. Some mild age related signs to the dial but for 90 + years this is to be expected. Comes with original key. Japy Freres was founded in 1806 by Frederic Japy with his sons Pierre (finances/ commerce, Fritz and Louis (technicality, machine design). Today many JAPY FRERES watches and clocks are still around because of the development by industrialization of the watch manufacturing industry. They produced millions of clocks and watches during its 150 years. Frederic Japy (1749-1812) was a pioneer in industrialisation and manufacturing clocks and watches. In 1806 his sons Louis, Pierre and Fritz by then took over the business. The trademark JAPY FRERES was founded by then. During the next years, up to 1930 the factory became very big, and standardised the manufacturing of watches and clocks up to Industrial scale world wide. The factory closed by the end of the 1930's.
