A nicely turned 19thc Fleam Stick / Mallet made of Beech....the Fleam was an instrument used by Vets to let blood in animals as it was thought to prevent and cure illness... and the Fleam Stick/Mallet was used to gently tap the Fleam into the vein....often as in this example you can see the marks of the Fleam on the Stick which confirms what it was used for.
