First Period Worcester Porcelain Fluted Cup & Saucer C.1770

18th century
Description

A very pretty Worcester fluted tea cup and saucer with unusual decoration of green and turquoise floral swagged garlands set on purple stems with purple outlines and "hanging" from purple staples at the rims. Gilt rims and detail to the inner circle of the saucer and cup handle. Unmarked.

Provenance: From the collection of A. W. McDougall, details attached to the underside of the saucer. A teapot of very similar decoration is illustrated in "Coloured Worcester Porcelain Of The First Period" by Marshall, plate 22, item 412.

The cup measures 5.1cm (2") high, 8cm (3 1/8") rim to rim and 10cm (3 15/16") rim to handle. The saucer measures 2.9cm (1 1/8") high and 14cm (5 1/2") wide.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There is a bit of handling wear mainly just to the high points on the flutes of the saucer in places and in the centre of the saucer where the cup sits, and some wear to the gilding on the rims.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
