A Biedermeier period Grand Sonnerie striking with Alarm Austrian Carriage Clock by Bernard Geissler c1818, This very rare Austrian Carriage clock was made at the very height of the Austrian clockmaking era and demonstrates the sheer quality and craftsmanship these masters had.
The square ebonised case having fine ormolu spandrels and engine turned gilt dial clearly shows off the precisely cut hands and fine porcelain dial. The chapter ring detailing Bernard Geissler in Wein. The case being finished with a finial and integral push repeat button within.
The complicated miniature movement with grand Sonnerie striking on two coiled gongs also features an alarm function directed by a fourth hand. The timing is performed by an intricate duplex escapement and balance wheel arrangement. The movement has been fully overhauled and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind
These incredibly rare Austrian carriage clocks are a delight to hold and watch in operation, being over 200 years old it is simply incredible the craftsmanship involved in making these small complicated clocks.
The maker Bernard Geissler Senior was born in 1789 and died in 1854. He was noted as working from 1818.
