Description

An unusual side chair, or backstool, in native Welsh oak. The back is particularly tall and has a pronounced camber or backward lean. with a shaped crest rail with a fretted heart motif, over a shaped splat flanked by square uprights, above a solid seat resting on a frame with moulded decoration and raised on square legs, those at the front being chamfered with stops, and united by stretchers.

(The seat is a later replacement).

Good colour and surface patination.

Carmarthenshire, west Wales, circa 1740.
