A beautiful neoclassical copper engraving depicting the heroic mythological tale of Tancred. Titled “Tancrède Blessé” (Tancred Wounded).
The Crusader Knight Tancred lies wounded after slaying the giant Argantes, shown to the right.
His faithful squire and arms-bearer Vafrin supports his head while the Saracen Princess Ermina, who has rushed to his rescue and is in love with Tancred, supports his head. His horse standing beyond by a tree.
In the storey Erminia cuts off her hair with his sword to dress her loved ones wounds. All ends well though as Tancred is restored to life and eventually united with Erminia.
