Museum Quality Antique English Burl Walnut Stationery Cabinet - Writing Slope

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

Beauty and heirloom quality come together in the form of this outstanding English Victorian stationery cabinet in highly prized burr Walnut.

Of course this one is extra special decorated with highly decorative brass mounts and polished bronze thick rope surrounding the stunning two hand painted porcelain plaques, featuring charming cherubs or putti figures. Each side of the cabinet is a wonderful heavy cast brass carrying handle.

The cabinet comes with a working key and the doors open to reveal a fully fitted interior including a perpetual calendar, a pair of brass topped inkwells, and the original framed slate which slots into right hand door.

The spring loaded button above the calendar releases the drawer below revealing a double action writing slope / lap desk; the top has the original gold embossed red leather writing slope. This then opens up to reveal a larger writing surface, again with the original gold tooled leather, the top half opens up to store papers, and letters below.

Dating to around 1870, the entire piece remains in superb undamaged condition, looking for a discerning new owner. Measures 15" wide x 11 1/2" deep x 14" tall at rear.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
