English Georgian Burr Yew Tea Caddy C.1815

Description

Coming up for 200 years old, this is a stunning and rarely found double tea caddy in Burl Yew, with highly decorative detail of cross-banding and boxwood stringing.

There are two removable liners inside, one would have held Black Tea and the other, Green Tea. These two tea types would have been blended in the central glass bowl to taste then transferred to the pot for making. The bowl is highly decorative engraved with an all-over fern design, one small chip to the foot.

The inside of the lid is beautifully inlaid, unusual and a sign of a top quality caddy.

The front has a diamond shaped escutcheon inlaid in Ebony which houses the tasseled key (for decorative purposes only).

Excellent condition, measuring 13" x 6" x 6".
