Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
Unusually engraved centre and separate seconds dial, original pierced steel hands. Commemorative plaque to the centre of the arch above the dial initialled in Gothic script DMM TE and with the dates 1890 June 25th 1915, suggesting the clock may have been a 25th birthday gift perhaps. Eight day movement featuring Westminster chimes, can be easily set to silent if preferred. Mahogany case standing very nearly eight feet tall. The hood topped with a moulded swan neck pediment with a pointed and segmented finial at the centre all over a fine inlaid marquetry frieze. The inlay continues on the door which is flanked with a pair of reeded columns with carved Corinthian capitals. Glazed door to the case revealing the three brass weights and pendulum, also arch topped and bevelled and set with raised mouldings. Long columns at the sides, ogee waist mouldings and a superb inlaid panel to the base. Unusual shaped detail to the plith. Excellent condition, the works have been overhauled and come with a 12 month guarantee. The case has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key and winder supplied.
