Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian work table is a specialised piece of compact furniture introduced in the late 18th century, primarily designed to store needlework, embroidery supplies, and writing materials. These tables typically feature small drawers, drop-leaf flaps, and a suspended fabric or wooden work basket underneath.

Craftspeople predominantly utilised solid or veneered mahogany, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer linings made of oak or pine. The lower sewing wells were lined with pleated silk or fabric, supported by square tapered or turned legs set on brass castors.

Look for signs of hand construction, such as irregular dovetail joints, hand-planed timber surfaces, and authentic brass castors. Original lock plates, period-correct turned wooden knobs, and natural timber shrinkage across the drop-leaf joints also indicate 18th or early 19th-century origin.

Position the piece as an occasional side table next to an armchair or sofa, leveraging its compact footprint and drop leaves for flexible surface space. It also functions effectively as a bedside nightstand or hallway accent table.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually to protect the original patina. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and modern heat sources to prevent timber cracking, veneer lifting, or fabric fading.
