This charming portrait was painted in Paris by the English artist Margaret Buck at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.
The character of the model is very sensitively handled. We can still feel the inquisitiveness and slight nervousness of this child from the streets of Paris who was probabaly unaccustomed to the company of artists.

The canvas was supplied by P. Foinet Fils Lefbevre, 54 Rue Notre Dame des Champs. Paul Jean Foinet was a well-known figure in late 19th-century Paris. He supplied many of the leading ateliers which were training international artists from Britain and the United States.

Margaret Buck exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London.

Painting is in good clean condition.
It is presented in an attractive patinated grey silver frame of the period.
