Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bobbin-turned nursing chair is a low-seated accent chair featuring lathe-turned wood components resembling spools or bobbins. Popularised during the 17th century and revived in the Victorian era, these low chairs were designed for nursing infants near the hearth.

These chairs were primarily crafted from dense native hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or beech, which allowed for precise wood-turning without splitting. The low seats were traditionally fitted with upholstered padding or woven natural fibres.

Authentic 19th-century turned chairs show subtle variation in the bobbin turnings due to hand-lathe production methods rather than modern machine uniformity. Pegged joint construction and original wear on the stretchers and runners also indicate period authenticity.

Position a bobbin nursing chair in a bedroom corner, beside a fireplace, or in a hallway to introduce architectural texture. Reupholstering the seat cushion in a contemporary linen creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern decor.

Dust the intricate turned spindles regularly with a soft microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and preserve the patina, keeping the frame away from direct heat sources.
