Antique Pocket Barometer by Ross London

19th century
Description

Very nice example of an antique pocket barometer in its original leather case dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. The barometer itself is cased in gilt brass with a loop to enable it to be attached to a chain and the face is marked with the maker's name "Ross. London. 668. Compensated".

The barometer comes with its original protective leather case. The case is in nice condition however it is missing its press catch. The leather is nicely worn and has a great patina.

The barometer is in good condition for its age. The glass is undamaged and has no major surface scratches or chips. The face is generally clean and clear to read. There are a few small knocks around the casing and some light scratches / tarnishing on the reverse but only what is to be expected. It displays very nicely. It appears to be in working order although I cannot say for sure how accurate it is - I have done the 'bag test' and it moves as expected.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
