Description

A good quality English fusee striking skeleton clock under a glass dome, dated c.1850.
The eight-day, twin fusee movement strikes the hours on a bell, with a trip repeat option. The thick polished brass plates are Gothic styled, the two united by particularly elaborate turned pillars, decorated with knurled rings, secured with large blued steel screws. The off-centre bell is vertically mounted, struck by a teardrop brass hammer.
All brass wheels within the wheel-train have six spokes, the motionwork with five spokes. The rack striking train is exposed with the skeletonised dial ring exposing the snail, star wheel and detent. The pendulum is beautifully profiled, another sign of high quality craftmanship.
The silvered chapter ring has a scalloped edge and black Roman numerals. Finely cut blued-steel moon hands.
The frame is raised on two brass plinths, and the swinging round brass pendulum bob is visible in the space between.
The clock sits on a black marble two-tier base under an antique glass dome.
The clock is overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
