The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Reeded twin handles with acanthus leaf upper terminals and decorative flower bud style detail part way down. The cover has matching stepped detail rising from rim the to a vertical fluted section before an ornate multi knopped finial.

Hallmarked to both pieces for London 1888, maker John Newton Mappin (Mappin & Webb).
It measures 25.4cm (10") high, 17.8cm (7") wide across the handles and 10cm (3 7/8") rim to rim. It weighs 575g/18.5ozt.

Condition is very good with no damage, dents or repairs. Minor and appropriate handling wear. No engravings or inscriptions; there has been one in the past but this has been polished out with no staining or thinning and the piece is ready for future use.
