Rare Quaker Hooded Wall Clock C. 1710

18th century
Description

A rare early Quaker hooded wall clock. An oak case with moulded top and fretwork to the pediment. A small 8" square brass dial with distinctive quaker designed circular dial decorations. A lovely original single blued steel hand with quarter hour dial markers. A lyre shaped steel and brass single train mechanism of unusual design with anchor escapement and the original small lead weight. Circa 1710.

The clock came from a private collection and has survived in remarkably original condition. Early quaker clocks turn up infrequently and are often unsigned. Most were made in the Oxfordshire area.

Height 17 " / 43 cms Width 16 " / 41 cms Depth 9 1/2 " / 24 cms.
