Gents Caravelle automatic wrist watch, 1963.

The brand name Caravelle was registered by the Bulova Watch Company in 1960.

The watch has a 17-jewel automatic movement, an AS1700/01 for Bulova (Caravelle) which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the date code dates it back to 1963.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold plated and the condition is good, just a little rubbing to the front of the lugs. The stainless steel case back is signed with the Caravelle name and the same date code as before for 1963. It also states that the watch case is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, seconds sweep and date display (an early form of quickset where the hands are moved repeatedly backwards and forwards between 12 midnight and 8.30pm until the desired date is reached).

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in its Caravelle presentation box.
