Stunning Cut Glass Box with Sterling Silver and Tortoise Shell Lid

Description

An absolute stunner of a vanity jar or box in cut crystal in the ever-popular hobnail design with the underside finished with a star cut base.

The lid is simply exquisite made from sterling silver and hallmarked for Birmingham 1920 together with the makers mark for Levi & Salaman. The top of the lid is inset with a glossy piece of tortoiseshell framed by a beaded silver border. The shell in turn is inlaid with silver pique work, some of the prettiest I have seen with the central cartouche draped with a ribbon and acanthus leaf garland. At the bottom hangs another bow motif with a musical theme of a horn and lyre.

Quite wonderful, in excellent condition measuring 4" x 2 1/4" x 2 3/4" tall.
