Description
This is a very fine, porcelain, Wedgwood lustre porcelain bowl, c1915, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones (1881-145) *. Part of a range termed as ‘ordinary lustres’ these items pre-date Fairyland Lustre, and whilst very similar are often confused with them. The bowl is octagonal, with an iridescent blue, gilded exterior decorated with Chinese dragons. There is a gilded Greek key pattern frieze top and bottom. The interior is richly glazed in pale green, also with a gilded frieze, birds of paradise and a beautiful oriental patterned base and gilded edge. The condition is excellent, with no repairs, rubbing, scratches or other damage. The base is stamped in gold with the WEDGWOOD, Portland Vase mark and MADE IN ENGLAND. There is a Z4829 mark, indicating that this piece is part of Wedgwood’s ‘Bone China Fancies’ range.
